Tip: Do your characters “walk” a lot? While walking is perfectly acceptable, it doesn’t always convey the emotion of the scene. If your character is angry, they can stomp around. Trying not to wake someone? Have them tiptoe or creep (depending on the scene). In the park on a beautiful spring day? Have them amble or stroll. These words all mean essentially the same thing – walk – but they show different moods. Check the way your character is moving and have it match the mood of the scene.
