Tip: When writing, be sure to ground your reader in the setting of your story. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but give us a time of year, and show us where we are. If we’re in a house or apartment, show us what the place looks like.

Thought: “I have to go where the book wants to. To start, you need a structure, something to hang it on, but if it wants to change, you have to listen and let it change.” – Madeleine L’Engle.

Teaser: Come up with a list of names for your hero and/or heroine and villain for a variety of genres – historical, science fiction, fantasy, romance, contemporary, etc. Why did you choose those names? Write a brief character sketch for each.
