perf5.000x8.000.inddWhat genre do your books fall into or is it a genre blended? I write romance (subgenres paranormal and fantasy) and urban fantasy. I’d call them all genre blended. <g>

What inspires you to write? Knowing someone, somewhere, might like this book. Also, the characters bug me until they get onto paper.

Do you listen to music or set the mood somehow to get writing? No music but there’s usually the hum of the TV in the background and the whine of our dog to stop writing and come play. Sipping on hot tea while in front of the computer usually helps me fall into a creative mood (provided the above mentioned dog is quiet!).

Do you come up with the plot or characters first? Hard one! It depends on the story. Usually it’s almost simultaneous. I have an idea for a story and the characters are part of that idea.

Do you have a favorite book of yours? Demon Lore and The Detective’s Dragon

Who would you consider an influence on your writing? Sherrilyn Kenyon, J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning

Tell me something quirky about yourself. I can’t leave the house unless the bed is made.

What do you aim to make people feel when they read your books? I want them to be sucked into the story and not want to put down the book.

What’s next for you? The second book in my Demon Huntress urban fantasy series comes out later in the year.

Do you sing in the shower? On occasion. It’s not pretty! <g>

Blurb:

As a Halfling with little magic, Jamie is barely considered a Draconi, his sole talent finding jewels and lost people. But when he dreams of a human female in trouble, he has no choice but to save her, even if it means crossing dimensions into a different realm. Unfairly accused and placed on administrative leave, Detective Ruby Parker is determined to regain her position on the Denver police force. When an attempt to kidnap her fails, she must learn to trust the stranger who appears from nowhere to help her. Unlike in Draconia, Jamie’s powers work in Parker’s world, his longing to wield magic finally fulfilled. But is working magic worth leaving his family and friends? When Parker realizes she loves Jamie, she must make a choice, follow her heart to a different world, or remain alone and attempt to regain her beloved job. What happens when the one you love lives in another dimension?

Excerpt:

The squeak of hinges snapped Parker’s attention to the door. Hottie stood in the doorway, one hand on the frame, the other on the handle, a look of determination plastered on his face. A look she was familiar with. A look she saw reflected in her mirror on a daily basis. A look mirrored on her coworkers’ faces when working a case.

A look she never thought to see directed her way.

Which was a bit unnerving, but not nearly as unnerving as the realization he’d followed her. He stood in the doorway like he owned the place. Or owned her.

Her limbs shuddered like a car without shocks. He. Followed. Her. Was he stalking her? Was he with the ones who tried to kidnap her? What was he doing here? More to the point, how did she get rid of him? Her muscles might be coming out of a deep freeze, but that didn’t mean she could hop off the bed and toss him out the door.

Where was the damn call button?

Parker patted the mattress. Hottie took a step closer. Then another. No button. Her heart shook an uneven rhythm, the beat a warning drum in her veins. Her hand moved faster against the mattress, searching, seeking, not finding.

Damn it.

“Be of ease. I mean no harm.”

She stilled, her hand paused mid-pat as if his words flipped her off switch. Deep and soothing, his voice stroked across frazzled nerves, slowing her racing heart. If he could bottle that sound, women would fall at his feet.

Karilyn Bentley’s love of reading stories and preference of sitting in front of a computer at home instead of in a cube, drove her to pen her own works, blending fantasy and romance mixed with a touch of funny.

Her paranormal romance novella, Werewolves in London, placed in the Got Wolf contest and started her writing career as an author of sexy heroes and lush fantasy worlds.

Karilyn lives in North Texas with her own hunky hero, a psycho dog nicknamed Hell Hound, a crazy puppy, and a handful of colorful saltwater fish.

I wish to thank both Misty and Vicky for giving me this wonderful opportunity to share my debut release of Mortal Magick, a paranormal/fantasy time travel romance set in 18th century mystical Isle of Skye.

PT_MortalMagic_400x600

When an immortal Highlander falls in love with a human witch, “Mortal Magick” soon casts a spell of its own.

Doomed for eternity to wander nights as half man and half creature, rugged Highlander, Duncan McCord, discovers his curse is the least of his problems when he sets out for a cure and rescues the beauty determined to help tame his beast.

When a reluctant witch, Keara, gets whisked back to 18th century mystical Isle of Skye to learn lessons in magic, she faces the true test of love when she meets the man beyond her wildest dreams burdened with dark secrets from his past.

Forced together to journey through an enchanted country filled with mythical creatures and magical lore, will they survive in a world where evil sorcery reigns, or will a shocking twist of fate tear them centuries apart?

Two wee excerpts:

“Duncan McCord wanted a woman. His entire body and soul hungered for a special lass’ touch. The one destined for his love, whom he would call kindred spirit. His stomach tightened, a pain ripping through him like the slice of a broadsword. This canna happen. Not now, not ever. Reality hastily slapped him back to his senses. He vowed never to be foolish enough to let himself fall into another vixen’s treacherous traps.

Dark, threatening clouds rolled over Scotland’s glorious mountain peaks in the distance. The muscles in his legs rippled, gripping both sides of his mount. His stallion, Goliath, snorted and stopped short in his tracks. His enormous hooves stomped the hard ground.”

and one more. . .

“Duncan lunged from the damp forest floor. His splayed hooves clip-clopped on top of a boulder. His nostrils flared from the irresistible lingering lavender scent. He cocked his head to the side, his keen hearing caught her every breath as each step she took brought her dangerously closer. “Aye, the damn fool-headed woman! She’s done wandered off again.”

He snarled at a shooting star plummeting to the ground. Like a bubbling cauldron of fire, it spit an outburst of flames across the moonlit sky. “Aye, the bonny wee lass is headed straight for a trap.” Clenching his fists, he veered back his head and wailed.”

A wee bit about Patty

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Raised as a “country girl” in northern Maryland, I fell in love with animals, books and the mystical world of magick from a small child. My mother being born and raised in Northern Ireland, along with the discovery of my father having American Indian ancestry, my fascination for both cultures quickly led my imagination to run wild.

The majority of my stories are centered in Scotland’s mystical Isle of Skye, the magical Glens of Antrim, Northern Ireland and the secluded wilderness of Alaska. Where shape shifters, werewolves, fairies, brownies and mythical creatures come to life.

In my spare time, I can be found sitting beside one of my favorite spinning wheels, blending exotic fibers.  And yes, thanks to my beloved, Irish Mom, I do believe in the little people and fairies…
