The Nerd Who Spied Me

The Nerd Who Spied Me coverThey’re confident in their secret operative abilities, but maybe not so much in their relationship goals.

Cian Hunter is tasked with the impossible: find Verity Wellington and bring her home safely. His survival is not guaranteed.

Everyone in their business knows Verity is perfectly capable of getting herself home, since she’s the gut-them-first-and-ask-questions-later type of operative. She also has the advantage of knowing where she is, which would be helpful.

He accepts the assignment, aware two operatives are better than one when dealing with the nebulous factions who lurk in the shadows. Plus, the chance to get close to Verity to see if his attraction to her is more than a fleeting interest is too good to pass up. Provided she doesn’t gut him first.

Cian is confident in his secret operative abilities, despite wishing to leave them behind. However, his relationship goals leave something to be desired. If he can figure those out… he might stand a chance of getting them both home alive.

Excerpt:

While he slammed the trunk lid, she snatched the keys. “Oh no.” His protest fell on empty space.

She climbed inside the cockpit and rubbed greedy hands over the rich leather, openly lusting after his car.

“You cannot—” His denial cut off when she came close to drawing one of her weapons on him.

A wise man learned when to just shut up. He shut up.

An unknown driver, driving his car. His baby.

Cian studiously tried to ignore the nervous sweat coating his body. His stomach rolled in a nauseating way.

She fired up the engine. It responded with the throaty throttle of a magnificently engineered masterpiece.

Verity’s eyes narrowed as though she had enjoyed that.

His muscles all clenched, but maybe not for the reason he kept trying to convince himself.

With the ease of someone familiar with manual transmissions, she shifted into reverse and handled the clutch, brake, and accelerator with the skill of someone who had done this before.

He still shut his eyes. Call him a wimp. Call him weak. It didn’t matter.

People, other than his sister, who had proved herself worthy, were not permitted to drive his car. Cian didn’t even trust his brother-in-law, a man who probably had owned a car just like this at some point in his life.

The man was twenty years older, so he must be adept at manual transmissions.

Jay still wasn’t allowed to drive this car.

Verity slid the gearshift into first and took off with the smoothness of a professional. His eyes popped wide as she powered through the gears more competently than him.

Her motions were fluid and light, with a poetic control. This car had been made for her.

He gaped.

She braked with buttery softness, pulling up to traffic lights with perfect timing, shifting as though one with the car. Curves were no problem for this dynamic duo. Woman and car took each with confidence and ease of movement so artistic his heart expanded.

His companion didn’t once ask for directions, but all too soon pulled into the driveway again and parked with an understated flourish.

“I want a car like this.”

“You’re the best driver I’ve ever driven with.” Including myself.

“I enjoy driving. Especially a machine like this one.” A covetous caress across the dashboard, and he swallowed.
